by David Cascante, the recipient of the South Georgia Hog Hunt:
“To everyone involved at Lazy Lab Hunting Club,
On February 15th, I was able to go out on my first ever hunting trip thanks to the selflessness of everyone involved. I am very grateful for Bill Platte and his sons, as well as the hunting club he belongs to, for providing the land, firearms, lodging, and food! This trip was tremendously enhanced by also affording me the opportunity to reconnect with an amazing Army Chaplain (Timothy Fary) with whom I had the absolute honor of having deployed with to Iraq in 2007. It was wonderful getting the opportunity to just speak about life and how things have gotten so much better in every aspect of my life since having found my way back to living a faith driven lifestyle.
Many of you might not know, but several years ago I was the lone survivor of a murder/suicide situation and was left with survivors guilt. I went through many years of self destructive behavior seeking the answers at the bottom of every bottle I could get my hands on. It was by the grace of God that I found my way out of those bottles and have spent several years trying to find inner peace and to go about my days knowing that we have been promised a beautiful eternity in heaven. Being able to share all of this with Chaplain Fary was a great moment in my journey. I may not have gotten to shoot a hog, but at the end of the day I came home with something much more meaningful.
Mr. Platte and his sons were amazing hosts that did a great job in teaching me many amazing things regarding hunting and what to look for. It’s a powerful thing to see a family that is so strong in their faith and how they function as a close unit. I had some great conversations with all 3 of them and I’m hopeful that I’ve made some new friends for life.
Thank you again to everyone involved! What you provide goes above and beyond what many organizations do. What’s even better about it all is that it’s a place where I can discuss my faith and what it means to my family without the judgmental rhetoric that is often found in many other organizations.
God Bless Y’all!
Dave Cascante”
